3 THINGS TO KNOW
Detroit Debut: Motor City Golf Club is a new addition for both WTGL and TGL 2027 Season, the first new franchise since the launch of TGL in January 2025. Thompson headlines a strong roster on the women’s side including Thitikul, Yin, 14-time LPGA winner Brooke M. Henderson and Albane Valenzuela. Together the team will bring a little Midwest flavor to SoFi Center in their debut matchup with Los Angeles.
Are You Experienced: Los Angeles will be ready to go on Tuesday night having already competed once in the season-opener on Sunday. We’ve seen how much experience in the arena at SoFi Center can pay off over two seasons of TGL, as players become more accustomed to the fast-paced style, team format and loud fans on top of the playing surface. That could give LAGC an early advantage in Triples, as MCGC makes its way around the venue for the very first time.
Bombs Away: The second singles matchup includes a pair of long hitters in Thompson and Romero. Thompson has long been one of the biggest drivers on the LPGA before retiring from full-time competition in 2024. Romero is just getting started having made her LPGA debut in the 2026 CPC Women’s Open and pipes it off the tee. Ranked the No. 1 amateur in 2025, Tuesday marks the perfect opportunity to show what she can do at SoFi Center.

SINGLES MATCHUPS
Jeeno Thitikul vs. Aki Iwai: Thitikul is an 11-time winner and earned Rolex Player of the Year Honors in 2025 - the same year Iwai made her LPGA debut coming off six victories on the JLPGA Tour. They’ll get Singles started at No. 10, Caverns, a par 5 set in a cave, followed by No. 13, Lavender Lane, a winding par 4 that debuted in Season 2 of TGL.
Thompson vs. Romero: This should be an electric matchup beginning at the par-4 11th, Loot on the Line, where both players have enough distance to take on the smaller middle fairway should they choose. Then it’s on to No. 14, Cenote, a totally unique par 3 where players can pull driver and tee off into a massive backdrop that funnels balls back to the green.
Ronni Yin vs. Michelle Wie West: Yin is swinging at SoFi Center for the first time, while Wie West will have some reps under her belt after Sunday’s season-opener. The final pairing gets started at SOS, a brand new par 3 in which players hit into the wreckage of a Swedish warship. They finish at No. 15, Stone & Steeple, a tricky par 5 where left is no good off the tee and players can post a big number if they’re not careful.
THE COURSE
WTGL’s second match tees off at the par-4 Hatchet, a TGL staple where errant right tee shots spell big trouble. But there’s room on the left for Thitikul and Iwai to set their teammates up for a birdie look at the first.
Players will see a bit of everything through the first four holes with the par-5 Sterling playing as the second - while it may look like a straightforward hole, a thin bunker runs vertically down the middle of the fairway and comes into play on the straightest of tee shots.
The par-3 third, The Last Toll, features a decrepit bridge in front of the green that players can try to go around in either direction or under, leading to a ton of variety in terms of shot shapes.
Then it’s on to the par 4 fifth, Belle of the Ball, a new risk-reward hole featuring an island green that players can dare to take on for a look at eagle.
Stinger remains firmly in the rotation at SoFi Center for WTGL, with the fan-favorite par 4 requiring a severely low-flighted tee shot and playing as the eighth hole Tuesday.
Loot on the Line is playing as the 11th and second Singles hole - this par 4 is always must-see down the stretch with a bold option available off the tee for those that need to make up ground.
SOS - a new par 3 with spectacular visuals - is playing as the 12th and will have players teeing off into a Nordic setting in honor of Annika Sorenstam.
Another potentially make-or-break par 3 awaits at No. 14 in Cenote - perhaps the most unique hole in the rotation. Players can choose to take on the green straight up with iron or bash driver into the downward-sloping backdrop, where hitting the correct side based on pin location can leave players with an excellent look at birdie.
HOLE SPOTLIGHT
No. 7, Craic On, 144 yards
Fans familiar with this links-style par 3 likely won’t recognize it from its inclusion in the first two seasons of TGL. What used to be a relatively straightforward tee shot is now anything but, with WTGL updating the hole to include a new tee box that completely changes the dynamic.
Players must now thread the needle in a small opening in a castle wall, measuring just 22 feet at its widest point. It’s all about precision and represents just one of several new wrinkles and overhauls to familiar holes for WTGL’s inaugural season.
